Providence Captures the Squirt A Championship

Congratulations to the Providence Bears on becoming the Rhode Island State League Squirt A Champion for the 2009-2010 season.  Providence defeated Newport in a nail-biting, edge of your seat excellently played game 1 - 0, with the only goal scored at 8:15 of the first period.  Providence will represent RI in the New England Tier I tournament in Smithfield, RI starting this Friday March 5th. Newport will represent RI in the New England Tier II tournament in Essex, Vt. also beginning this Friday, March 5th.  We wish good luck to both teams in their quest for the championships!

In the consolation game, Burrillville defeated Warwick 2 - 1 in a shoot-out 4th overtime.   This was an up and down game the entire way.  Burrillville will represent RI in the New England Tier III Sectionals in Shelton, Ct.  begining March 19th.  We wish Burrillville continued success!

I would like to sincerely thank Newport Hockey for a fantastic tournament!  Everything was perfect and the Newport board, coaches and volunteers did a great job sponsoring the Squirt A Playoffs!  Your dedication to your league and to youth hockey made my job a lot smoother and a lot of fun.    THANK YOU!!
