2010 GIRLS YANKEE CONFERENCE
To say that the Girls from RI had a good weekend at The Yankee Conference Festival would be a major understatement. Each of our age levels played great hockey and Rhode Island clearly left its imprint on the Festival evaluators and fans. As you remember, ALL of the girl’s teams were mixed state teams and all of our players contributed to the overall success of their teams and helped their teammates to display their abilities in this Showcase format.
A few highlights:
Our U17 girls had very strong showings with 2 of our 6 players making the leader board in total points.
Our goalie had a great weekend albeit having been placed on a mixed state team that generated no goals, she still managed a 2.00 goals against average and was the reason that her team was “in” every game.
Our U15 goalie was tied for second in her age group with a fantastic 1.00 goals against average.
A Rhode Island player was the overall points scoring leader at U15.
We had 1 player that was tied for third in total points and 2 players that were tied for 4th in overall points.
We also had remarkable success at U13:
7 of the top total points leaders were from RI.
RI girls scored 35% of all of the goals at U13.
10 of 15 RI girls scored goals.
One of our girls led the weekend in game tying goals.
3 of our players were tied for second in assists and 2 were tied for 3rd in assists.
Our U13 goalies had terrific weekends with each of them recording high save percentages and being responsible for the success of their teams.
Overall the U13s were so impressive that the New England District will meet this summer to determine if we need to expand the size of the Festival.
As evidenced above, it is clear that the future of RI Girl’s hockey is very strong.
U15 and U17 Girl's Yankee Conference teams are posted on the New England Women' website www.NEWHOCKEY.org
Girl's Yankee Conf tryouts for 93/94 and 95/96 are complete.
Thanks to all of the girls that turned out. We had more girls at these age groups participate in tryouts than in many years.
As a reminder, at these age groups, VT, CT, RI, NH and ME are allocated a certain number of player slots as determined by past performance of RI players versus the competition in previous year's festivals.
(we do not send an entire team to the festival).
RI's selected players will be announced in early February.
